Not Companies.
Leaders hear this all the time- but most don’t know how deep it really runs. I learned it long before stepping into a boardroom. Growing up deaf, I noticed something leaders often miss: the disconnect between what people say and how they actually feel. I became hyper-attuned to body language, energy, and the silences in between. To me, talk was cheap-  the truth lived in actions, micro-cues, and what wasn’t being said.

And the same is true in your workplace. What goes unspoken matters just as much as what’s written in policies or shared in meetings. If leaders don’t learn to listen beyond words, they miss the very signals that drive engagement, trust, and retention.

Interviewing over 300 employees the pattern was clear: people don’t leave because of the tasks on their desk. They leave because of how they were treated, dismissed, or silenced.
